Hebridean Arts

Despite the archipelago's remoteness, the Outer Hebridean arts scene is a very vibrant one from the Butt of Lewis to Barra!

Celtic culture has traditionally been a culture of the arts - poetry, song, music and the visual arts. The arts scene to this day is kept vibrant by both the local and incoming population. You only have to drive along the west side of Lewis or the east coast of Harris to see the number of private galleries belonging to artists to get an idea...

This past year saw the Highland 2007 - a celebration of Highland culture, which included the Islands as well. It was a first and after such a difficult and turbulent history, it was heartening to see a celebration of the Gaeltachd beyond the overly-romanticised kitch stuff for the tourists.

Be sure to come back regularly to get updates on events, concerts and exhibitions as well as spotlights on local artists.

If you are a local artist, performer, musician, photographer etc, and you have a website, review or event you would like publicised, please get in contact via the Contact Us page.

An Lanntair is the main arts centre in the Western Isles, located in Stornoway. There is a full programme of events - exhibitions, concerts, films, kids art club, theatrical performances to name just a few.
