"WHY would you want to live in the Outer Hebrides?!"
After all, the weather in the Outer Hebrides is not the best and it's soooo remote..." I live on a 4 acre croft with my husband and son on the Hebridean island of Lewis. We keep horses, ducks, and chickens on our place. The croft overlooks the peat moor, the sea and a loch! My son, who suffers from asthma, has improved greatly since moving away from the city and its fumes and pollen. He also is able to roam and play in safety like a child should. And the education here - most other places you would have to pay for private education to get the small class sizes we have here at primary level. I no longer live the hurly-burly lifestyle I did when I lived in England. There is still a good sense of community here and the locals are renowned for their friendliness and hospitality! The purpose of this website is a guide to living in the Western Isles - whether you've been here all your life, returning here, an incomer or even someone who wants to come here to visit, there's something here for everyone.
